Klub Ka, The Blues Legend is a fantasy in the tradition of The Wizard
of Oz and Alice in the Wonderland - with its own
original music. The story is that of Suji, a teen-age girl who
is sexually abused by her father. Already attempting to write
poetry, she cannot express the depth of her feelings or the trauma
of her exprience, until she discovers in the attic, a 1920 Okeh
recording, "Papa Gee's Blues". The Delta bluesman materializes
and tells her she must take the journey to Klub Ka, The Blues Legend, the home of
all blues poets, past and present, to compete for "The Magic
Ka of Words" (Ka, the Egyptian word for "soul".)
If she succeeds, it will enable her to articulate her own blues.
It is a dangerous odyssey that requires her to enter the Kingdom
of the Dead.
